Hydroxychloroquine emergency release by FDA

I wanted to clarify the announcement regarding the emergency release of hydroxychloroquine.

FDA statement by Denise Hinton: https://www.fda.gov/media/136534/download

To summarize: there has been no new evidence to support any medication in the treatment of COVID-19. That is correct: hydroxychloroquine has not yet been proven to be effective against COVID-19.

Given the significant anecdotal evidence, and the need for treatment, stockpiles of the medication have been released for treatment against COVID-19. I’m sure this with a difficult decision for the FDA, and one that will come under fire. They good news from this, however, is that we can find out soon if there is any true effectiveness of this drug (and possibly in combination with azithromycin and zinc) against COVID-19.

You can see my extensive review of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin in recent posts:

Stay tuned to this rapidly evolving situation.
