This is a very good question – and thank you so much for being a donor! Blood donation is crucial to our health system, and the answer for most people will be “yes”.
To safely donate, the general guidance is to:
- Not be high risk for having viral exposure (no travel in last 28 days)
- No diagnosis of COVID-19
- No contact with a person who has the virus, or is suspected to have it (in past 28 days)
- Routine contraindications (if you donate, you already know these)
You must ensure your safety, and remaining vigilant about hand hygiene and not touching your face is critical for donating blood (as much as it is for grocery shopping in our current state!).
Thank you again for being a blood donor. You are saving more lives than you know!
